This has been anything but an ordinary year. Coding departments continue to struggle with the effects of unpredictable patient volume, rapid fire code changes, and staff and hour reductions. What do these challenges mean for coding productivity and accuracy?
According to the preliminary results of HIM Briefings' 2020 Coding Productivity Survey, 64% of respondents said coding productivity expectations didn't change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But 46% reported that changes in patient volume due to the COVID-19 pandemic have negatively impacted coding productivity.
