For decades, many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have reliably voted Republican, Samuel Benson of the Deseret News reports.

"This election," Benson writes, "significant Latter-day Saint populations in two battleground states — Arizona and Nevada — could help decide who wins in November. The problem? Many Latter-day Saints don’t seem to love any of the options."

Poll: How will Trump’s endorsement influence Utah Republican primaries?

An endorsement from former President Donald Trump makes nearly 4 out of 10 Utah Republican primary voters more likely to support a candidate in statewide and congressional races, according to a new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll.

A similar portion of registered primary-voting Republicans are not impacted by a Trump endorsement, the poll found. Trump’s endorsement makes around one-fifth of Republican voters less likely to support a candidate in a primary election — whether it be for U.S. Senate, U.S. House or governor.

Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs, who is running to replace Mitt Romney in the U.S. Senate, and Utah 2nd District Rep. Celeste Maloy, who is running for reelection, are the only Utah candidates to have received the Trump nod this election cycle.

Which of these 21 track and field athletes with Utah ties will punch their tickets to Paris this week?

After all the qualifications were sorted out, 21 Utahns have qualified for the U.S. Olympic track and field team trials, but earning a spot on the team that will compete in the Paris Olympics is another matter entirely.

This is a new level of competition. The Olympic trials might rival the Olympic Games for sheer drama, intense competition and the quality of performances. With an unrivaled array of talent and a population of more than 333 million, the U.S. can offer only three spots in each event to represent the U.S. at the Olympics.

It’s an all-or-nothing proposition. The top three finishers move on to Paris; everyone else goes home, and, in the past, that has included world and American record holders and Olympic medalists.

There is no team in any sport that is more difficult to earn a spot on.
