By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor Last week's shooting at a Southern fraternity party is something that emergency workers call an "MCI," or mass-casualty incident. When they happen, paramedics assess the severity of injuries, and use their triage system to save as many lives as possible. Eleven people were injured, and the East Baton Rouge responders described for us what they found at the scene. Members of the Metro Council are not happy. At last night's meeting, they grilled city-parish staff — and the mayor-president and parish attorney — over the flawed rollout of a plan to address shortcomings in East Baton Rouge's stormwater system. And at the end of the day, the federal government still says the area has to do something about it. While we march deeper into autumn, there are still things in the tropics worth a look. Forecasters are looking at systems in the Caribbean and Atlantic. |
