While the national eviction moratorium, in effect until the end of the year, protects renters in the short term, it leaves both property owners and renters financially vulnerable without the inclusion of rental assistance, Megan Booth, NARâs director of federal housing and policy, explains in this weekâs âPivot in Placeâ video. NAR and other housing groups sent a stark warning to Congress this month, saying inaction on rental assistance could lead to âthe greatest rental housing crisis of our lifetime.â
Congress has made little headway on passing an additional economic stimulus package, and the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will likely slow negotiations further, policy analysts say. For now, watch the video to review the criteria renters must meet to qualify for protection under the eviction moratorium, as well as steps you can take with tenants who arenât paying.
