Experts not panicking over state of Baton Rouge real estate market

Despite some unpromising statistics, local real estate experts apparently are generally optimistic about the state of the Baton Rouge market. During Thursday's Trends in Real Estate seminar, local appraiser Tom Cook said the local housing market is projected to look about the same in 2024.

However, panelists said development in the city is being held back by the difficulty in getting commercial insurance.


A measure in the state Legislature would create criminal penalties for people who order abortion drugs for their own future use. Senate Bill 276 would classify two abortion-inducing drugs as Schedule IV substances alongside addictive drugs such as opioids and depressants.

The bill passed unanimously in the Senate before it was amended and now needs approval in the House.
