My name is Sarah Gambles, (a lot of people call me just "Gambles" like my Twitter handle @justgambles14). I'm officially going to be the lead writer for Utah Today starting this morning. I'll be working with McKenna Jensen and Ariel Harmer to bring you the news in Utah you need each day of the week.
Deseret News has been my work home for three years. I was an intern here in 2010 while also attending BYU and writing about BYU football for The Daily Universe. During my time at BYU, I attended a devotional with Chad Lewis as the speaker. I recommend this Dave McCann piece about Lewis and that magical 1996 season.
I look forward to getting to know and interacting with you as a reader. Please feel free to email me at sgambles@deseretnews.com if you ever have any questions, concerns or ideas!
Harris, Trump jostle for Latter-day Saint votes
This election is proving to be one wild ride.
Trump campaign: Last week, Donald Trump visited Utah and acknowledged that Latter-day Saints could help decide who wins the battleground state of Arizona.
During a fundraising event in Salt Lake City, Trump spoke about the importance of Latter-day Saint votes in Arizona and asked Marlon Bateman — a former State Department official — to head up a “Latter-day Saints for Trump” coalition.
Harris campaign: Vice-President Harris had a similar thought. Her campaign rolled out a "Latter-day Saints for Harris-Walz" Arizona advisory committee Thursday, comprised of 50 Latter-day Saints across the state. Several members of the committee are current or former Republicans.

Utah was ranked 13th best state for thrill-seekers in a report by buycycle after factoring in things like bike trails, climbing areas, amusement parks, sky diving centers, etc.

Here's a little background on me.
🌻 Origin story: I grew up in Soda Springs, Idaho, and lived there until I turned 18 — my parents still live there, and I visit often. I am the middle of three sisters, and my older sister has two little girls (4 and 8) with her husband.
✍️ Experience: I graduated from BYU in 2012 and served a mission in the Sweden Stockholm mission from 2013-2014. My first full-time job was at The Spectrum in St. George, and I reported on education, business and culture 🏜️
✈️ Hobbies: In my spare time, I like to travel, do yoga, go to the movies and watch reality TV. I'm currently helping foster two Springer Spaniels named Bear and Penny, along with my dog Mac and my friend/roommate who does most of the dog work and discipline, while I spoil them 🐶😬🤷
I've learned so much about unconditional love through the experience. I hope to write a story about it, so if you have any questions about fostering or want to know more or share your own experiences, reach out!
I'm excited to take on this role in being a part of your morning each day, and again, I would love to hear any feedback or suggestions.
