How Low Can Corn Go?
 
On the heels of Friday's USDA report, Jon Scheve shares his thoughts on future price projections, which range from $4.25 to $7.25 per bushel, based on various national corn yield averages. Right now, it seems the market is trading around a 175 bu. per acre yield, so any further reduction would likely spark a rally. However, a 2-billion-bushel carryout is too much. In the past 10 years when carryout exceeded 2 billion bushels at the end of the season, futures fell below $4.
 
 
 

Flattened corn can often recover, stand and produce decent yields. Soybeans can shake off a storm and flourish, but beware of spider mites in the next 10 days if temperatures stay 85-plus degrees with low humidity. “Some of you are thinking about throwing in the towel and not spraying. That's what we call walking away from a growing crop, and this is something you should never do,” says Ken Ferrie.
