How much progress has been made toward the IOM's Future of Nursing recommendations?
Monday, March 18, 2019

The 'Future of Nursing' today.

It's hard to believe that almost a decade has passed since the Institute of Medicine issued its Future of Nursing report and accompanying recommendations. So how close has nursing come to meeting the goals set out in the 2010 report?

This week's feature story focuses on where we are now in relation to those goals. While progress has been made and some recommendations have already been met, others may not be achieved by the 2020 deadline.

In next week's issue, Susan Hassmiller, RN, PhD, FAAN, of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, will share her insights on where we are and what the future of the 'Future of Nursing' holds.

Plus:

  • Why a major for-profit health system bought a large nursing school.
  • How the location of postacute care affects readmissions.
  • The American Nurses Association's stance on Medicare for all.
