Some much-needed snow is heading our way this weekend along the Wasatch Front.

“We’ve got a cold front headed in early tomorrow morning that should stall out over the Wasatch Front,” KSL-TV meteorologist Matt Johnson said Friday. “Accompanying this front will be a band of snow that will wobble between Salt Lake City and Nephi, highest totals likely to fall in Utah Valley.”

The storm will bring rain to St. George, ending a more than 50-day dry streak in St. George on Monday, Dennis Romboy reported.

More than a home: How a ‘human first’ approach could reinvent Utah homeless policy

A debate over "human first" and housing first approaches to the homelessness crisis in Utah is coming to the forefront of the legislative session.

The lawmaker spearheading homeless policy for the House majority, Rep. Tyler Clancy, R-Provo, has outlined a focus on consistent enforcement of local anti-camping ordinances and a determination to make a hard break with the state’s lingering housing-first approach to homelessness, Brigham Tomco reported.

On Friday, Clancy unveiled his comprehensive homelessness bill for the session, HB329, Homeless Services Amendments.

Some of the things the bill would do include:

Require homeless shelters to maintain a zero-tolerance policy for drug use, possession or distribution. Enhance penalties for drug offenses in homeless shelters. Ensure that licenses for homeless shelters prioritize the public safety of surrounding areas. Read more about how Utah leaders hope to address chronic homelessness.

Utah high schoolers divided on House bill easing driving restrictions for minors

Laws around who can be in the car with a new driver might be changing soon. Rep. Jill Koford, R-Ogden, sponsored HB308, which would allow a newly licensed minor to drive up to one passenger (who does not have to be a relative) as soon as they get their license, Eva Terry reported. Eva talked with students attending Salt Lake City's West High School to see what they think of possibly getting to have a friend in the car. Currently, new drivers cannot have a passenger who is not an immediate family member for six months after they get their license.

Here's what some of them said:

"I know for a fact that people drive faster and more recklessly when they’re in a car full of their friends," Charlie Livers, 18, said. “It’s definitely like, when you’re driving with your friends, sometimes you wanna put on a show and drive more aggressively and get to your location quicker,” Gus Pearson, 17, said. “If it’s multiple, I don’t think it’s all right, but if it’s one friend, it’s totally fine," Tyler Bills, 16, said. "I wish this bill was passed earlier.” “Six months is absurd, that’s too long," Mateo Gargano, 17, said. Read more about the amendment.
