'The Hardest Commercial I Have Ever Edited.' How Nike Created Its Split-Screen Masterpiece

We're trying something new today.

Adweek Pro subscribers get daily access to our best, most insightful and exclusive content, though we always do what we can to make much of Adweek's content available for free as well.

Today we're trying a fun middle ground—for those of you notice early enough, that is. :)

For the past few weeks, I've been talking to the teams behind Nike's visually phenomenal "You Can't Stop Us" ad, which uses a split screen to unprecedented effect.

While the editing is clearly the star of the show here—and required no less than 1,040 hours of compositing—the 90-second spot is also a testament to intensive planning and creative strategy, along with visual effects work so meticulous, you don't even notice how the footage might differ from the original.

Until Noon Eastern Time today, this article will be available free to read, then will only be accessible to Adweek Pro subscribers. So check it out now! (You might need to sign up for a free Adweek account if you haven't already.)

If you're already an Adweek subscriber, thank you for supporting our journalism and helping us bring you the kind of content each day that can help you do your job better.

And if you're not a subscriber, check out the link below for our current signup offer, which is just $49 for your first three months.

Wishing you a Friday of a Monday,
