May the Fourth be with you! If you happen to be flying Alaska Airlines today, check out today's fun travel tip. Hint: It involves Star Wars.

Last week, my family and I spent a couple of great days at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa (review here) and visited LEGOLAND and the Carlsbad Flower Fields, pictured above.

I was supposed to travel to Connecticut this past weekend to see my dad and attend a party but after reading that COVID rates were surging there, I changed my plans at the last minute. I was really regretting my decision until I found out that multiple people who attended the party have now tested positive for COVID.

There's a good chance I would have brought the virus back to my family so now I'm relieved I didn't go. We're still traveling but we're trying to do so as cautiously as we can by only eating and meeting people outdoors and wearing masks while we're inside crowded areas, including airports and airplanes. As much as we might be over Covid, it seems Covid is not over us.

But this isn't stopping most Americans from traveling as TSA checkpoint numbers are close to pre-pandemic levels. Rates for hotels and prices for airfares have, in most cases, surpassed 2019 numbers. Demand is high and staffing issues will continue to wreak havoc on schedules and prices so buckle up.
Here's my advice for minimizing the chaos of traveling this summer and here's my advice on finding cheap flights.
