How surveillance is changing the way we work

Four radio plays, each in a single room

Before the pandemic hit, Radio National Fictions commissioned a series of four plays with something in common: in each, the action takes place in a single room, in real time.
The idea was to keep the location contained – within a mediation room, a police interrogation room, a lost property office and a kitchen – so the focus could be on the script, the acting and ultimately the story.
While much of what you’ve heard on RN this year has been recorded remotely, for this series the actors were recorded in person.
So between Melbourne’s lockdown 1.0 and 2.0, presenter and producer Fiona Pepper crept into a studio to record the four plays with a wonderful cast of actors, including Nadine Garner, Osamah Sami and Alison Whyte.
Single Room kicks off this Saturday with a comedy called Kinder Surprise.
