Foodwise Teens Cultivate Community Through Summer Jobs in the Farmers Market

San Francisco’s students go back to school next week, many with life-changing summer adventures and stories to tell. For participants in our Foodwise Teens program, those formative experiences included giving back to their community through summer jobs at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

While building their resumes, students expanded their food knowledge, grew in leadership and confidence, and felt a sense of belonging and empowerment as active participants in their city and their local food system. Five of our Foodwise Teens shared what they’re most proud of and what they’ll carry with them from working in the farmers market.

Tomorrow! Pop-Ups on the Plaza: Black Creators Craft Market

Celebrate Black Business Month with a day of crafts and community tomorrow at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, featuring 12 Black Bay Area crafters selling their small-batch jams, skincare, clothing, and more. Find them in the south patio in front of the Ferry Building.

Join us tomorrow at 11 am at the Foodwise Classroom for a strawberry shortcake demo with MarQuita of That's My Jam, who will also be popping up at the Black Creators Craft Market.

Ferry Plaza Farmers Market: Featured Vendors

The Devotos have been growing heirloom apples and field-grown flowers since 1976. During apple season, visit their stand on Saturdays for each week's selection of the many varieties that they grow, starting with Gravensteins.

Are peaches, pluots, and other stone fruit sweeter than usual this season? The San Francisco Chronicle talked to Blossom Bluff Orchards and Frog Hollow Farm from the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market to find out.

Mission Community Market: Featured Vendors

Urban Sprouts operates community gardens in San Francisco's southeastern neighborhoods. Support youth entrepreneurship and garden-based education by shopping for plant starts and salves at Urban Sprouts’ stand on Thursdays.

Did you know you can get Brokaw Ranch's deliciously ripe avocados in the Mission on Thursdays, in addition to the Ferry Plaza on Saturdays? The Brokaws specialize in avocados, specialty citrus, and subtropical tree fruit.
