The weather will remain cloudy and chilly tonight, with lows in the upper 30s. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-50s. On Sunday we’ll trade a few clouds for highs around 60 with a chance of rain, and maybe a touch of snow after midnight. But there will be little to no accumulation when you wake up the next morning. Funeral services for Daunte Wright are set to take place next week in Minneapolis. The funeral is scheduled for noon Thursday at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, with the Reverend Al Sharpton delivering the eulogy.

Wright was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop last Sunday in Brooklyn Center.

The 20-year-old's death has sparked days of protests outside the Brooklyn Center police department, with police using tear gas and arresting dozens of people for violating curfews earlier in the week. Thursday night's protest was markedly calmer, when police did not use munitions and there were no reports of large-scale arrests.

Minneapolis Public Schools will be changing their learning schedules next week in preparation for jury deliberations and a verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial.

On Monday and Tuesday, in-person learning will continue for all grades.

But Wednesday through Friday, all students who typically participate in in-person learning will switch to distance learning.

The district has cancelled all athletic events and before- and after-school child care for the remainder of the week, though pick-up lunches will still be available.

COVID-19 variants are driving infections across Minnesota as state health officials warn of a fourth wave. The state is reporting about 2,300 new cases today.

That brings the total of active cases in the state just over 20,000 for the first time since December. But while case counts are marching upward, they're growing at a slower rate than they did last week.

As of today, nearly half of all Minnesotans 16 and older have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and within that group, just over 34 percent have completed their vaccine regimen.

The Brooklyn Center school district has canceled in-person classes this week and turned some of its buildings into community aid centers. School leaders say the worst thing they could do would be to carry on with business as usual as their students and families are frightened and in pain after yet another police killing, clashes with protesters and boarded-up grocery stores.

Biden keeps refugee limits at Trump-era levels for now, despite earlier pledge
The White House is walking back its earlier announcement that it will keep the refugee ceiling of 15,000 set by the Trump administration, saying its widely panned announcement earlier Friday was meant only to ease restrictions from countries from which refugees are banned and that President Joe Biden would raise the cap by May 15.

Climate politics: Key takeaways from climate change action at the Legislature
Climate change has emerged as a top issue for the Biden administration, which is trying to push the country more quickly toward a carbon-free future. In Minnesota, the Democrat-led House is also pushing for sweeping climate legislation. But there’s a significant gulf in the state Senate, where many Republicans don’t see climate change as an urgent threat.

Biden administration to spend $1.7 billion to track spread of coronavirus variants
The Biden administration will send $1.7 billion to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local and state governments and other research efforts, starting early next month to find and track coronavirus variants lurking in the U.S. Already, the more contagious UK variant B.1.1.7 is now the dominant strain in this country, fueling surges in Michigan and the Northeast.
