How employers and employees will benefit from the UAE’s new unemployment insurance
The UAE’s pace of reform continues unabated, with authorities recently announcing sweeping changes to how unemployment will work in the country. For the first time, insured workers will be compensated with up to AED20,000 in cash in the event of unemployment.

The announcement, which experts have described a “huge step for employee rights,” will massively increase stability for workers, and put the onus back on firms to ensure they have what it takes to retain top talent.

Set to enter into effect in January 2023, unemployment insurance will also reverberate throughout the economy, with start-ups set to benefit as entrepreneurs become more empowered to take risks and start businesses. In addition, the attractivity of the UAE as a place to live and work will increase, helping firms to secure the best in global talent.
