If your networking needs an upgrade, I’ve got a few quick tips today that can help.
First of all, start with other people’s needs in mind…
Rather than what you want.
Ask yourself the following questions to figure out how you can be more valuable to others:
- What unique advice can I share with people?
- What group of people would benefit from this advice?
- How can I best deliver this advice so that it has the greatest impact?
For example…
I have unique, contrarian, valuable advice on how to be more productive, how to be a better leader, how to use systems to grow a business, how to sell on social media, etc.
I’ve put this in my books (that we give away for free)...
I speak to groups on-stage and on-zoom...
I make video after video online...
And I do all of this in a (fairly) entertaining way.
I cover some potentially controversial topics like “how to quit watching porn” and “how to stop drinking.”
But oddly enough…
One of my most vanilla videos a few years ago, on “how to go to bed at 8pm,” is the one that made the most people angry. Go figure.
Anyways... All of this output brings amazing inputs...
Killer contrarian content attracts people to me because I’ve become a person of value.
As a result, my network snowballs so that it becomes easier to attract more and more connections with each person that I help and content piece I make.
For example, Brad Lea has a very successful podcast and, a while back, reached out to me — out of the blue — to have me on his show.
Others get my books and invite me to speak to their groups.
And others hire me for coaching.
That’s how this virtuous cycle works.
Only AFTER you’ve established how you can get your network snowball rolling...
… is it then time to think about YOU.
That’s when you can ask these four questions:
- Who do I want to know?
- Who do I already know that I want to know better?
- Who knows these people well that can introduce me to these people?
- How can I help connected people introduce me to other connected people?
Which brings us back to the value you can add to others...
Your networking ability all starts there.
And when you figure out how to add more value to more people so that you build a massive network…
Opportunities will abound…
Resources will come more readily…
And you’ll never lack for anything in life.
