Assessing Flexible Work Options |

For the past 15 months, campuses have struggled to enact pandemic-related policies. Should they mandate masks in classrooms? How often should they test students? Which courses should be held online? Now, as vaccine access widens and colleges move forward with an in-person fall, administrators are entering a new era of regulating the pandemic-informed campus — and their policies center around staff, not students. This Chronicle report, " The New Academic Workplace," explores the wide adoption of flexible-work policies at public and private colleges that had previously been arranged for individual employees, and why leaders from coast to coast are asking to what extent staff could remain virtual and what that would mean for life on campus and off.
