1. TRUMP BOOED AT WORLD SERIES GAME: President Trump made a rare public appearance at Game 5 of the World Series between the Nationals and Astros on Sunday. The president was introduced to the crowd after the third inning and was greeted with boos and chants of “lock him up” from attendees. USA Today: “Trump did not sit with the Lerner family, the principal owners of the Nationals. A representative for the Lerner family put in a request to MLB to not be put in position to turn down a request from the White House to sit with Trump, according to WUSA. … Every president since William Taft in 1910 has thrown out a ceremonial first pitch during their time in office, either for Opening Day, the All-Star Game, or the World Series. On Friday, Trump notified he did not want to throw out the ceremonial first pitch or make other public appearance ‘in order to make the fan experience as positive as possible,’ M.L.B. commissioner Rob Manfred said.”

2. TAYLOR SWIFT WILL HEADLINE ALIBABA’S SHOPPING EXTRAVAGANZA: Taylor Swift will perform in China at Alibaba Group's annual Singles' Day shopping extravaganza in November. Swift is headlining with other musicians and TV personalities from Asia at the e-commerce company’s annual shopping event, which will be televised on November 10 from the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai. The Hollywood Reporter: “More than a few U.S. sports and entertainment figures—including Scarlett Johansson, David Beckham, Mariah Carey, and Daniel Craig—have flocked to the Alibaba-produced spectacle in years past to build their brands among Chinese consumers. But in recent months, U.S. celebrities' eagerness to please the Chinese government and the country's enormous consumer base have begun to be viewed with more skepticism by the U.S. public. … Alibaba's Singles' Day Gala Show, held each year on Nov. 10 and broadcast live across China, has since grown into a hybrid spectacle combining elements of a pop concert with a variety show, the New Year's Eve countdown, and the Home Shopping Network.”

3. WOMAN KILLED BY EXPLOSION AT GENDER REVEAL EVENT: An Iowa woman was killed by an explosion at a gender reveal party on Saturday. The woman, 56, was killed by a piece of flying debris from the gender reveal announcement, which created the explosion. NBC News: “No further information has been released at this time. The Marion County Sheriff's Office could not immediately be reached for comment. In 2018, another gender reveal party went horribly wrong when a Tucson, Arizona, man shot at a target, which was supposed to release either a pink or blue cloud to indicate the baby's gender. Instead, the target—which contained the highly explosive substance tannerite—burst into flames, spreading quickly through the field of dry brush that surrounded it.”

The Kimpton Carlyle Hotel Dupont Circle is posh, but it feels homey, too. The aesthetic of the high-design, Art Deco lobby carries over into the rooms, where the elegance becomes more subdued. carlylehoteldc.com Bash Buzz Everything you…
