I love strolling through my local antique malls or thrift stores; it’s one of my favorite ways to relax. You never know what kind of gems you’ll find. I recently picked up three street signs that were originally from the Big Island in Hawaii. They’re now proudly on display on the mantle of my living room, over the door on my patio deck and on the china hutch in my dining room. I thought of that today when I read the Recruiting & Retention story about finding talent in the current labor market. It’s competitive out there, says Donald Thompson, but you can find the gems if you’re willing to stretch yourself. My favorite tips include making sure the application process is accessible to job seekers with unique needs; paying candidates for the time they spend interviewing (interesting!); and chucking the traditional rules of recruitment (yes, yes, yes -- go rogue!). What are you doing to stand out in today’s tight talent market? Let me know! And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
