One thing I’ve been hearing a lot from clients recently is a fear of leaving their business to go on vacation.

They say things like:

“If I go away, I don’t get paid!” or “But what if something happens?!”

Listen, it’s ok if you feel this way.

Every entrepreneur feels this concern when they’re not used to stepping away and haven’t put systems in place.

Back when ETR Head Coach, Daniel Woodrum, and I owned two Fit Body Boot Camp locations…

Daniel would regularly take anywhere from 7-14 days away from the gyms for family vacations… and rarely needed to check-in while he was gone.

He was able to do that because of his outstanding leadership and the systems he put in place.

Similarly, one of our most successful clients, Frank Den Blanken, once took two weeks off during a major product launch in his business.

He did it in large part by following this advice I gave:

3 Steps to Delegate While You’re on Holidays

1) Clearly outline the vision of the launch (goals, purpose, etc.).

Set clear goals and expectations and explain – based on past launches – why these numbers are attainable.

2) Do a "launch walk through" with everyone...

That's what we did at my company when we hosted our Perfect Life Retreat.

Every Monday leading up to the event, we would walk through the customer experience from "Minute 1 of Arrival" through to the last minute of the last day.

The result was a very well run event without much work from me. A launch or virtually any other big project can be the same.

3) Have your team members interview you about what you want them to do.

That way you get their perspective and it's not just you telling them what to do.

You’ll be able to identify and preempt misunderstandings from their point of view.

How to Run Facebook Ads Worry-Free While On Vacation

Here’s what you need to do before you go on holiday:

Sit down with your traffic buyers and allow them to do a 48-hour practice period running the ads for a mini-promotion (different offer, flash sale).

Record everything.

Then when the 48-hours is over, sit down with them and do a debrief meeting. Walk through the numbers, daily performance, the adjustments they made, their logic for doing so, and then suggest corrections... but also praise what they did right.

This is similar to roleplaying a sales call or listening to a recording of an actual sales session.

It works for most things that typically require your feedback.

Should You Check-In on the Ads While on Vacation?

It’s up to you...

What’s more important...

a) The experiment of fully detaching from the business?
b) The results of the launch?

If it’s “a” because this fits your long-term vision of running an Empire without you, then you must be ok without checking in.

Your business will not blow up because it’s just one launch and your team has a limit on their daily ad budget so it’s not like you’re going to go broke.

Just triple check to make sure all the limits are working and that there are other systems in place to catch any major mistakes.

Now all that’s left is for you to disappear for two weeks ;)

=======

I know that doesn’t cover every single aspect of every type of business out there…

But that’s also kind of the point.

It’s about understanding that you don’t need to build contingencies for all the million things that “could” happen (but won’t).

It’s about putting systems in place that take care of the most important and day-to-day items that generally involve you…

And then… just letting go.

9.9 times out of 10 the “vacation experiment” will be a success…

And your health, your family, your mental energy, and your performance when you get back will be far better off because of it.
