View in browser December 31, 2020 Okay, take a deep breath, everyone. 2020 is just about over. Remember back when, seemingly forever ago, 2020 was surely going to be better than 2019? But then again, 2019 was supposed to be better than 2018. And 2018 was... you get the idea.
Hayes Brown wonders in his newest essay: Why do we keep setting ourselves up for disappointment?
"If you insist on your rubric for 'better' requiring 'no more bad things,' well, that way lies madness," Brown warns. The start of 2021 won't banish the nightmares of 2020 — and it will spawn nightmares of its own. But there's room for each of us to define "better" for ourselves.
