Adidas' head of HR stepping down

Karen Parkin has decided to retire as global head of HR at Adidas after some employees asked the supervisory board to investigate her tactics for addressing racial discrimination in the workplace. Among issues is a statement Parkin made last year in which she called racism "noise" and said Adidas did not have a problem with racism -- a claim some employees contest.

A survey by Recruiter shows 51.4% of recruiters expect to be busier and to be hiring more during the next 30 days, while 68% of respondents expect to be recruiting more during the next 90 days. The average recruiter worked on 20 open positions in June, compared with 15 in May and 12 in April.

Study: Wage-history bans boost pay equity

States that ban employers from asking job candidates about wage history have seen a boost in salary for people who have changed jobs, particularly for African Americans, with a 13% to 16% increase, and for women, with an 8% to 9% increase, according to a study from Boston University. Information about wage history "perpetuates inequality," economist and researcher James Bessen says.

Data: Degrees offer some shutdown job security

Economists note that employees without a college education face higher rates of job loss in the wake of the coronavirus than those with higher levels of education, presumably because college-educated employees have jobs that can be performed remotely. An analysis of survey data found that 22% of respondents without a degree said they were working remotely, compared with 65% of respondents with a degree.

Many fashion retailers, including Urban Outfitters and Brooks Brothers, are leaning into the trend, while Walmart says sales of tops exceeded sales of bottoms during the first quarter.
