John, I was recently asked, “Do you love your job?” Yeah, I do. I really do. It doesn’t mean there aren’t frustrations at times. I love my dog. But when he barks at the neighbor’s cat at 2 a.m., I’m not too happy with him in that moment. So how do you love a job in marketing? I think what we’re seeing all around us during this Valentine’s Day week is a great analogy. Any relationship needs a solid foundation. With a job, that’s the salary, the benefits, the office, the title, etc. That has to be there or the relationship simply doesn’t work. But Valentine’s Day brings out that little extra something for us that makes us realize the love. It’s not really about all those hearts and roses and chocolates. It’s about who you give it to. In marketing, for me, it's the customer. I love my job because I get to serve you. And I get to help you serve your customer better. Thank you for all of your emails showing us appreciation and making us feel the love. Now, if you know me, I would never just send you a sappy email without content that helps you do your job.
