There's nothing wrong with strawberries and whipped cream on a soft cake--that is, until you've tried real shortcakes!
The contrast between soft billowy whipped cream, ripe strawberries an a crisp shortcake is sensational.
Real shortcakes are very biscuit-like. An additional couple of tablespoons of sugar will do it. (Although we've added ground almonds and a bit of almond flavor and that is wonderful.)
But seriously, it's quicker to make biscuits than a cake and your family will like shortcakes much better!
