Yogananda encourages us to interiorize our spiritual enthusiasm so that we might apply it judiciously. Properly used and placed, it can lead to beneficial results, not unlike dynamite: to dig tunnels through many layers of ego, towards the center of our own being.

Daily spiritual renewal to me looks like waves in the ocean racing each other to the shore in their attempt to gain confidence. In the oscillations of each wave, there are notes of eternal freedom. They hint at the renewal of ideas, thoughts, and ultimately— oneself.

The spiritual path is a moment to moment transcendence. Practical ways of surrendering the ego include dropping defensiveness and inviting God as the Doer.
When Jesus said, “Who has seen Me, has seen the Father,” he prompted theologians down through the ages to try to understand what he meant. Anybody who sees God is bound to be deeply changed.
