One of the most intimidating commands in Scripture is to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17). As a kid, I wondered how it was even possible to pray all the time. I imagined someone trying to eat, go to school, and carry on conversations—all with their hands folded and head bowed. It just didn’t seem possible.
Esther Shin Chuang faced a similar dilemma. As a single woman she enjoyed long periods of interceding for friends and family. But once she became a mother, her schedule changed. Instead of dedicating her mornings to prayer, she was chasing toddlers and cleaning up their messes. How could she continue to live a life of prayer? For her the answer came from an ancient practice: breath prayers. In How Breath Prayers Helped Me ‘Pray Continually’ she shares how these short simple prayers enabled her to nurture her connection to God.
