How to Secure AI Systems

How Enterprises Can Secure AI Systems

Last week we reported on a DeepSeek data breach that led to the leaking of one million sensitive records. We told readers of CSO that this raised major alarms over security risks in the AI industry.

That being the case, our CISO readers wanted to know how to secure their own AI systems, and asked Smart Answers for advice. Smart Answers is our generative AI-infused chatbot that generates insights from our 60-year history of reporting first-person experience from IT professionals. You can trust that its advice will ring true.

In this case Smart Answers recommends a multi-faceted approach, and a balanced approach that values security at the same level as operational advantage. And, as always, train your employees to look for issues.

Catch a Phish

We reported last week that the US Government was sued after mass emails to the federal workforce were allegedly sent from an insecure server. The suit alleges that government appointees allegedly plugged their own email server into OPM network, breaking data security rules.

Readers of Computerworld wanted to understand more about the potential impacts of insecure email practice, asking our Smart Answers chatbot how to spot a Phishing attack. The bad news is that one conclusion, after generations of expert reporting, is that spotting those Phishes is getting harder to do.

Migration Mission

This week we brought CIO readers the news that SAP plans to announce a new offering designed to help the firm’s largest customers succeed in their cloud transformation. Scheduled for release in 2028, an analyst told us that it will reduce risks, security vulnerabilities, and compliance challenges tied to outdated systems and cloud migration.

This clearly resonated with our readers, who ran to Smart Answers, seeking more general advice on migrating to SAP's cloud offering. The top line is that - as with so many transformative projects - the challenges are rooted in issues with skills and legacy. Same as it ever was.
