But then someone asked this question, "What if I don't have any, or very few, past collectors or anyone on my mailing list?" That's a great question! After all, everyone starts at zero, and going from nothing to something is definitely harder than going from something to something more. There are a number of ways to address this problem, but to keep it simple, let's concentrate on just a few of the top ways to solve it. If I were starting from zero, here's what I think I would do: Step One - The Setup PhaseFirst, I would set up a website to showcase my art. Yes, in the interest of full disclosure, I sell artist websites, and it's probably possible to do this cleverly without a website, but you will give everything a tailwind, and you will have a legitimate reason to reach out to people if you have, or you launch a website. So, set up a good website that showcases your art. (If you want the solution many leading artists choose, we would be happy to help you with one at https://www.faso.com - see special offer below.)
The email newsletter is extremely important, and something we'll come back to later. Do NOT skip this step, even if you don't set up a website. If you set up your site with us, FASO, your email signup forms and email sending software are all built into your FASO site, so you don't have to worry about connecting two different platforms, or embedding any confusing html forms from one service to another. FASO's built-in newsletter software is called ArtfulMail, but you can also use Mailchimp, Convertkit or a number of other services. If you choose ArtfulMail, you'll save money because it's all bundled together with your website.

She's right, we haven't done a great job of clarifying the confusion, and that's something we're going to improve, but notice the first part of her comment, "I appreciate FASO promotions and have sold work that way." Let us help you launch your site and start selling work!

PS - I thought you would find it interesting to see some feedback we've gotten, not from artists, but from art collectors. Here are a few quotes from two collectors we know that both own over 300 pieces, mostly bought via FASO channels:
"I have discovered many new artists and purchased their works from the [FASO] DailyArtStream and the Informed Collector. Keep up the great work. It's very important."
"I am a rabid collector who wanted to pass along my thoughts. I am a huge FASO supporter, frequently recommending FASO to artists who have horrible websites. FASO is the best, even if all artists do not use it as well as they might."
"OK, I just looked at an artist's website Powered by Squarespace. I use my phone almost exclusively, and as I'm sure you already know, Squarespace isn't configured for the phone, making it extremely difficult to navigate and read text. Boo. Hiss. When I receive his painting I'll contact him, and I'll recommend FASO."
"I'm a collector who loves your BoldBrush Painting Contest. I have followed it for the past 10 years and it has inspired many of my purchases from great artists such as: Nagy, Westerberg, Crandall, Penix, Couture and McChristian, to mention just a few." -- Mauricio Gonzalez

“I tell artists that all the galleries I have been with have all benefited from artists being hosted on BoldBrush platforms: Informed Collector, BoldBrush Magazine, BoldBrush Collector, BoldBrush Artful Alert and the BoldBrush Competitions.
I explain that I have had new buyers at the galleries mention that they saw something from an artist that interested them on one of these. They researched the artist's website and found more art they liked. And that led them to the gallery to purchase just the right piece from that artist. I just want to take a moment to say thanks where thanks is deserved.”
