Is your ISP throttling your speeds? Here’s how to check

Security tip: How to stop websites from tracking you with URLs

Many websites will track you through URLs. That's why many URLs have long strings of random numbers at the end. They look like a mess — but they reveal highly sensitive information about you. Sites you visit can then turn around and sell your private data to advertisers. Here's how to stop it from happening.

How the US military transportation system works

The world's largest employer isn't Walmart. It isn't Amazon. It's the U.S. Department of Defense, and it's not even close. This massive organization has over 3 million employees across the globe. With all these people working all around the world, getting them from place to place necessitates a massive transportation system. Best accounting software?

Q:

Is there ANYTHING I can use besides QuickBooks for my financials? The more I use QB, the more disgusted I become! HELP!

A:

Sounds like you're drowning in spreadsheets. Don’t let QuickBooks slow you down, and stop paying for multiple systems that don’t give you the information you need when you need it. It’s time to upgrade to NetSuite by Oracle, the world’s No. 1 cloud business system.

NetSuite gives you visibility and control over your financials, HR, inventory, e-commerce and more — all in one place — instantaneously.

Want to check it out? Let NetSuite show you how they’ll benefit your business with a free product tour at NetSuite.com/Kim.

Finding reliable pros

Q:

What's a safe way to find someone to work on a project at my house? I heard you mention an app you like. I don't want to waste money on bad work.

A:

You've come to the right place. Spotting scams is harder than ever, and you can't trust Google results or many of the apps and sites out there that list home pros.

I've been using Angi, a sponsor of my national radio show, and I can't get over how easy it is to find the right person for any projects. You can search through thousands of qualified pros right there in the app and read through real reviews left by real users. I used it to find a new landscaper, and I couldn't be happier.

To try it yourself, download the Angi app.

Home security and data use

Q:

I am thinking about getting SimpliSafe for my home but do not have unlimited internet. If I get this system, along with a few cameras, how much data will I be using up on a monthly basis before my general use? And will it slow down my computer or smart television?

A:

SimpliSafe cameras record only when triggered. Different events have different recording times, and the data used also depends on video quality. Here's an example. Say you had a break-in that lasted 5 minutes. With the default quality (720p), that recording would typically be about 30 MB.

You'd need to have several full alarms every single day for a month to reach a gigabyte of data. Allow about 10 MB a day per camera. All the other components run on cellular that's included with the monthly monitoring bill.

For a limited time, get a free security camera, 20% off + a free month of monitoring.
