Donald Trump's Twitter Account Is in Jeopardy

Good morning, it’s Lucinda Southern here, Adweek media editor.

Donald Trump will lose control of Twitter’s @POTUS handle, come January. But he’ll likely lose other privileges that being the President has allowed him on the platform.

Without the protection of Twitter’s ‘world leaders’ policy, should Trump repeat the sentiment of previous posts, Twitter would serve a suspension or harsher punishments, according to reporting from my colleague Scott Nover.

Platforms like people on there who drive interactions. Removing Trump would “create a colossal void” in Twitter’s entire network, said Cuihua Shen, an associate professor University of California, Davis.

One trend is clear, the vice platforms find themselves in about how they approach content moderation is only going to tighten next year.

Day two of Adweek’s Elevate: Publishing summit saw Jessica Lessin’s The Information discuss how virtual events will factor in its 2021 plans. Plus, Cory Haik, Vice chief digital officer, told Adweek’s TV editor Jason Lynch about how the media company is figuring out vertical video this year

Today I’ll be speaking with Bloomberg Media CEO Justin Smith about the outlook for 2021. Tune in if you can.

And with that, please consider supporting our journalism with an Adweek Pro Subscription and gain full access to all of Adweek's essential coverage and resources.

Thanks for reading!
