Plus, what Utah Sens. Mitt Romney and Mike Lee are doing in the Senate's battle over same-sex marriage.
Good morning, Utah Today readers! Here’s today’s forecast: ⛅ 42 – 70° in Logan |💧 40% chance 🌥 56 – 79° in Salt Lake City |💧 30% chance ☀️ 61 – 87° in St. George What a crazy first week of NFL action! I did not expect my NFC West to finish the way they did. I would never have guessed the Russell Wilson-less Seattle Seahawks would have the lone win in the division after beating Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. Two weeks ago, I received a response from a reader, who mentioned they were a Seahawks fan. As much as it pains this Cardinals fan to say, congrats on the win, Catherine Bangerter! The first game of week two didn't fail to disappoint either with a last-minute comeback from the Chiefs and the Chargers' Justin Herbert playing through a rib injury to cut the Chiefs' lead to three. I'm excited for some more football this weekend! Before more NFL action, the Cougars take on the Oregon Ducks in Eugene. Can the Cougars continue their stellar play after that emotional win over Baylor and stop a Ducks offense that put up 70 points last week? The Utes host San Diego State. After their blowout win against Southern Utah, can they stop the Aztecs' run game and earn their second win of the season? Also on our minds: why Ryan Reynolds got a colonoscopy and filmed it, how a Chick-fil-A employee stopped a carjacking and when to book your flights for the holidays. |
| Utah’s housing, homeless crisis is at a peak. What are state, city leaders doing about it? |
|
| | With winter approaching, city and state leaders have increased funding for affordable housing and homelessness projects. Last week, the state approved $55 million to fund 1,078 total affordable units, including 529 units for the homeless. Mayor Mendenhall proposed $6 million in grants from Salt Lake City to build 400 units of transitional and supportive housing by April. | Both Sen. Mitt Romney and Sen. Mike Lee are working on amendments to the Respect for Marriage Act. Romney wants to ensure the law would not harm people of faith. While Lee has the same concerns as Romney, he reportedly is more focused on an amendment that would protect federal funding for religious non-profits.
