Incorporation date disagreement: On Aug. 29, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome proposed an intergovernmental agreement, offering a plan for the new city of St. George to begin receiving $600,000 a month in parish taxes to help fund the newly formed government. But also included in that plan was a proposal for the city-parish and St. George to file a joint motion in court to set an incorporation date of July 1, 2024 for the new city, as Broome said the law requires. However, St. George Mayor Dustin Yates says the city's incorporation data is in Oct. 2019, and that they will not file a motion in court to change it. Read more.
