Fortune CEO Alan Murray is postponing the company's in-person CEO Initiative conference in Washington, D.C., after unionized staffers threatened to picket the event because of what they claim is a lack of progress over contract negotiations. Murray informed staff members of the postponement in an email that also claimed he had been told Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh planned to boycott the conference, but a Labor spokesperson said Walsh was never confirmed to attend.

After spending the holidays in Idaho with my cousin, Jamie, the ultimate mother and homemaker, I returned to California newly inspired to cook more and to make my own sourdough starter. I shared this with my sister-in-law, Brandi, and she was likewise inspired. We made a date to “bake together” virtually over FaceTime (Brandi lives in Hawaii with my brother and their daughter).

It was a blast! I set up a long table in my kitchen and angled my iPad so she could see everything I was doing. We had so much fun. We both made starters and she was amused by how mine “go moe moe” in my cooler. We wound up spending about two hours on the line with each other that night. It was wonderful.

I thought of that when I read today’s Leadership & Development story about social care. The story has great suggestions for maintaining connections amid the pandemic.

What are you doing for social care? Tell me!
And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
