GLOBAL: Atlantis Paradise Island, the iconic destination resort in the Bahamas, has announced that the inaugural Nassau Paradise Island Wine & Food Festival (NPIWFF) will take place March 15-19. The five-day festival will showcase world-renowned top chefs, master sommeliers, mixologists, and notable TV personalities, including Tony Abou-Ganim, Alex Guarnaschelli, JJ Johnson, Aarón Sánchez, Alon Shaya, Michael White, and Andrew Zimmern. There will also be a performance by rapper Wyclef Jean at Jerk Jam on March 18. The festival will highlight the Bahamas as a growing culinary and entertainment hub while generating awareness for Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, a nonprofit that protects and preserves marine wildlife and its endangered habitats throughout the Bahamas and Caribbean seas. Tickets are on sale now.
MIAMI: COCO Miami—Miami’s newest destination meant for "chic, sophisticated cuisine" inspired by famed designer Coco Chanel—is set to open on Jan. 11 in the heart of Miami’s Design District. The 2,800-square-foot dining room comfortably seats 156 guests and features marble floors, bespoke crystal chandeliers, pearl garlands, marble tabletops, and illuminated agate sculptures. The venue will also present an array of nightly live entertainment, from live bands to dancers, DJs, and singers. As for the menu, expect seasonal offerings like Oscietra caviar and winter truffles, crafted cocktails, and dishes with high-quality meats and sustainably caught seafood.
NASHVILLE: Following the completion of its multi-year restoration and redesign, The Hermitage Hotel is kicking off the new year with a collection of new guest experiences that aim to immerse guests in the culture and history of Nashville. The new experiences include Girls Getaway with Draper James, which includes a private shopping experience at Draper James’ flagship store; a private tour of Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, a historic 1930s estate that now serves as a public botanical garden, arboretum, and museum; and the Vintage Guitar Connoisseur Experience, where a hand-selected vintage guitar from Carter Vintage Exchange will be delivered to The Hermitage Suite for the guest’s personal use—plus private after-hours shopping at Carter Vintage Exchange’s Nashville showroom.
NEW YORK: Salil Mehta—the chef and restaurateur who has earned praise for his Southeast Asian-inspired restaurants that include LAUT, the first Malaysian restaurant to earn a Michelin star in New York—returns to his roots, with the opening of Kebab aur Sharab at 247 West 72nd St., which opened on Dec. 29, 2022. The menu is inspired by the street food and comfort food that Mehta grew up with, including dishes from iconic restaurants and street carts in India. Highlights include Aslam’s Butter Chicken, Dori Kebab, and Andhra Chilli Chicken. The main dining room seats 55, the enclosed sidewalk seats 20, and the bar seats 18.
PASADENA, CALIF.: Pasadena Playhouse is kicking off 2023 with a six-month celebration of famed musical theater writer Stephen Sondheim. From Jan. 26-27, students of the Pasadena Unified School District will perform Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Other performances will include Sunday in the Park with George andmulti-award winning musical theatre actor Larry Owens’ Sondheimia. Tickets are now on sale.
