On Wednesday, March 6, HRSA Administrator Carole Johnson joined White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden and more than 900 rural health stakeholders to announce the Rural Opioid Treatment and Response Initiative. The initiative includes the release of the latest Rural Communities Opioid Response Program notice of funding opportunity, RCORP-Impact. This program aims to increase access to life-saving treatment and help rural individuals achieve long-term, sustained recovery.

On Monday, February 26, Administrator Johnson and HRSA senior leaders met with state and territorial health officials during the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials’ (ASTHO) Spring Leadership Forum.

The group discussed how HRSA and state and territorial health departments can continue to work together to support and grow the health workforce, provide HIV care, improve and enhance maternal health, and promote HRSA funding opportunities to communities in need.

On Sunday, March 10, HRSA will recognize National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This year’s theme is "Prevention and Testing at Every Age. Care and Treatment at Every Stage," which is an important reminder about the ongoing impact of HIV on women and girls and why we must come together to encourage HIV testing, prevention, and whole-person care to this priority population.

HRSA’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program is committed to helping women diagnosed with HIV get the care, medication, and support services they need. In 2022, more than 25% of Ryan White clients were women, and nearly 60% of those clients were Black/African American women. Among women receiving RWHAP HIV medical care, nearly 90% were virally suppressed. This means they cannot sexually transmit HIV to their partners and can live longer and healthier lives. HRSA is proud of this progress thanks to the dedication of our recipients, subrecipients, and stakeholders.

HRSA’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program will observe National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Wednesday, March 20. This day is an opportunity to amplify the voices of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians and raise HIV awareness, encourage HIV testing, and highlight ways to get treatment for HIV for those who test positive.

This year’s theme is “It’s all relative, our experience makes a difference.” Among AI/AN Ryan White clients receiving HIV care, more than 88% were virally suppressed.

A recent HRSA-funded study shows that health centers with the highest use of patient support services, such as transportation, score higher than other health centers on 90% of clinical quality process measures (e.g., cervical cancer screening, childhood immunization status). This research suggests that the health-related social services that health centers provide make a significant positive impact on clinical health outcomes.

HRSA’s Nurse Corps Scholarship Program application is open! The program provides scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum two-year, full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent) at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses.
