HSEs Asbestos & You campaign urges people working in construction to be aware of disturbing asbestos, especially when renovating and refurbishing properties built before the year 2000. Help raise awareness that asbestos didnt disappear when it was banned in the UK, and remains in places that you might not expect, by supporting the Asbestos & You campaign. HSE has teamed up with partners to spread the word across different professions including builders, carpenters, electricians, joiners, plasterers, plumbers, and roofers. Useful resources include: HSE has published a revised version of our publication Electrical safety on construction sites (HSG141). This latest (second) edition is aimed at those responsible for planning and subsequent management, and those who control the installation and use of electrical systems and equipment on construction sites. The guidance explains what to do to reduce the risk of accidents involving electricity. It includes advice on safe working practices for everyone who controls or influences the design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, maintenance or operation of electrical systems and equipment during construction activities. Practical information is also given to help understand what the requirements of the relevant legislation may mean in practice. April is Stress Awareness month, a timely reminder to reach out and have conversations about stress and mental health where you work. Our Working Minds campaign, which aims to prevent work-related stress and promote good mental health in the workplace, has compiled a list of resources to assist employers and workers. Other useful resources HSE offer include our Talking Toolkit, which can help structure conversations with workers to help prevent stress at work. The charity Mates in Mind, which supports the construction industry, has also launched a free and confidential text service to reach individuals who may be struggling with their mental health.
