#1 Hulu Launches Live TV Streaming Service for $39.99 a Month
Hulu announced Wednesday morning at its NewFront presentation that it has released a beta version of its anticipated live streaming TV service, priced at $39.99 per month. The service offers more than 50 networks, including channels from Scripps Networks Interactive HGTV, Food Network and Travel Channel through a new affiliation agreement.
WHY THIS MATTERS: With its live service, Hulu is joining a crowd of streaming skinny bundles being offered at prices that suggest a razor-thin profit margin for distributors. Already in the market are YouTube TV, AT&Ts DirecTV Now, Sonys PlayStation Vue, Dish Networks Sling and a bunch of smaller competitors.

#2 Moffett: The Cord-Cutting Future Has Arrived
The U.S. pay TV industry lost about 762,000 video subs in the first quarter of 2017, a worst-ever result for the period, according to a new report from MoffettNathanson.
WHY THIS MATTERS: For the better part of 15 years, pundits have predicted that cord-cutting was the future. Well, the future has arrived, MoffetNathansons Craig Moffett declared in his Q1 2017 Cord-Cutting Monitor. He noted that video losses from Q1 were more than five times as large as last years loss of 141,000.

#3 Comcast Releases X1 Updates
Comcast announced that it is rolling out a series of enhancements for its X1 video platform for set-tops and mobile devices. X1 is an interactive platform that combines universal search results from live TV, on-demand programming and DVR recordings, in addition to personalized recommendations and apps such as Netflix and YouTube.
WHY THIS MATTERS: The new features include a smart keyboard designed to decrease the time a customer spends typing in what they want to watch, as well as a simplified transactional VOD folder, personalized screensavers, power saver and a cloud-based DVR function that records programming through its entirety regardless if it starts early or ends late. X1 is deployed to about 60% of Comcast Cable subscribers.

Quote Of The Day

Viewing of video content on traditional digital screens like laptops and mobile phones is huge, as well all know. But the fact is, consumers still love their TV sets. Its no surprise that Connected TV and Advanced TV are seeing such spikes they provide the lean-back experience that consumers know and love, with the targeting opportunities brands are looking for. One of the reasons were seeing this growth in connected TV is the incredible targeting methods now available.
