We should be taught not to wait for inspiration to start a thing. Action always generates inspiration. Inspiration seldom generates action. --- Frank Tibolt Setting a good example for children takes all the fun out of middle age. --- William Feather (1908 - 1976) Household tasks are easier and quicker when they are done by somebody else. --- James Thorpe (1888 - 1953) ____________________________________________________ It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 (police dog) partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me. "Is that a dog you got back there?" he asked. "It sure is," I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, "What'd he get arrested for ?" __________________________________________________ We had spent the day moving from our farmhouse into our new house in town. Early the next morning, our 3 1/2-year old ran into our bedroom to wake us up. I dressed him and told him to play in the yard and to quit bothering us. About 20 minutes later, he came running back. "Mommy, Mommy," he exclaimed, "everybody here has doorbells.... and they all work." __________________________________________________ Reported by Rock An International Bonehead Award has been earned by Michael Kaser, Gilbert, Arizona, USA Az man arrested after he killed his stepfather Gilbert Police say a man has been arrested after he shot and killed his stepfather upon returning home from a Christmas gathering. At around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 25, officers responded to reports of a vehicle that had backed into a home near Recker and Warner Roads. Officers arrived at the home and found an 80-year-old man with gunshot wounds inside the car. The victim, identified as Michael Kinney, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to court documents, Michael Kaser, 48, came out of a nearby home and was detained by police. While being taken into custody, Kaser allegedly said, "I killed my stepfather. I should have killed him a long time ago." Prior to the shooting, Kaser told police he, his stepfather, and his mother were inside the car and driving home. When they got home, Kaser said he got out of the car, grabbed a gun, and shot his stepfather as he was pulling into the garage. Kaser's mother was not hurt. After the shooting, Kaser reached into the vehicle, over his shot stepfather, and put the vehicle into neutral, causing it to roll backward and crash into a nearby home. Kaser allegedly told police he was "done" with his stepfather after "decades of alleged physical and emotional abuse." "Michael further stated he thought about killing Michael Kinney for 20 years and almost killed him on one previous occasion prior to this incident occurring," read a portion of the court documents. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots when the shooting occurred. One witness also reported seeing a man kicking a car and yelling, "I'm going to [expletive] kill you" moments before the shooting. Kaser was arrested and booked into jail on a $1 million bond. He is accused of first-degree murder. Additionally, Kaser is accused of being a prohibited possessor of a weapon due to prior convictions. ___________________________________________________ Stephanie Davis Snghua River ___________________________________________________ A Smart Like Shovel Award goes to a Hastings, Nebraska man who stole a city snow plow, drove it to a nearby city to buy some beer. He also needed fuel for the big, gas guzzling plow truck to bring the beer back home. He used one of his own personal checks to pay for the gas. DUH. I think he is on the county snow SHOVEL crew now. ___________________________________________________ If you can spare a coin, PLEASE hit PayPal with it! ___________________________________________________ _______________________________________________ Frantic Woman on phone: "Doctor, my Son just swallowed a nickel, and he's coughing up dimes. "They cut off our feet for luck," twitches the bunny. "Recently we got a call from that big white church at 11th and Walnut," the paramedic said. "A frantic usher was very concerned that during the sermon an elderly man passed out in a pew and appeared to be dead. The usher could find no pulse and there was no noticeable breathing." "What was so unusual and demanding about this particular call?" the interviewer asked. "Well," the paramedic said, "we carried out four guys before we found the one who was dead." ___________________________________________________________ DearWebby's Tech Support Pits FROM: Lea RE: Calendar reminder Dear Webby What is the best calendar reminder? Is there something I'm not getting when humans make noise with their mouths? 3. Why doesn't the government do something about dogs? 4. I wonder if Morris really liked 9-Lives, or did he have ulterior motives? 5. Hmmm... If dogs serve humans, and humans serve cats, why can't we cats ever get these stupid dogs to do anything for us? 6. This looks like a good spot for a nap. 7. Hey -- no kidding, I'm sure that's the can opener. 8. Would humans have built a vast and complex civilization of their own if we cats hadn't given them a reason to invent sofas and can openers in the first place? 9. If there's a God, how can He allow neutering? 10. If that really was the can opener, I'll play finicky just to let them know who's boss! ____________________________________________________ Today, December 29 in 1170, St. Thomas Becket, the 40th archbishop of Canterbury, was murdered in his own cathedral by four knights acting on Henry II's orders. 1812, The USS Constitution won a battle against the British ship HMS Java about 30 miles off the coast of Brazil.
