DearWebby's Tech Support Pits From: Mia Re: PayPal Dear Webby, When applying for PayPal, they ask for all kinds of information. Are you going to get a lot of spam then? Mia Dear Mia There is a box that you can checkmark, IF you want occasional mailings in your fields of interest. If you don't checkmark that, then all you get is the receipts for your purchases and payments people send to you. Sometimes they improve their security and send an email about that, but it is no big deal. It is usually something they do in the background and nothing to worry about. I have used PayPal since the 90's and have never seen any spam sent by them or sent by merchants, who got my address from PayPal. That is nothing to worry about. Have FUN! WHILE WAITING her turn at the catalogue-order desk, my mother heard the clerk explain to a customer that their state- of-the-art computer would call him when his order came in. The man told her to leave a message on his answering machine if he wasn't home. The woman became flustered. "I'm sorry, sir," she replied, "but our computer won't talk to a machine." As if the stress weren't enough, four-year-old Christopher insisted on asking questions about everything, told me how to drive better, and sang every song he knew. Finally, fed up with the incessant chatter, I made him an offer: "Christopher, if you'll be quiet for just a few minutes, I'll give you a quarter." It worked. But when we stopped for lunch, I unknowingly began to harp on him. "Christopher, sit up straight ... don't spill your drink ... don't talk with your mouth full." Finally he said seriously, "Dad, if you'll be quiet for just a few minutes, I'll give you a quarter." ___________________________________________________ Daily tip from Thriftyfun.com Thriftyfun.com Mending Holes in Screens If you have a hole in a screen door or window screen, you can mend it just like you mend a piece of clothing. Just stitch the hole shut using fine nylon thread or wire that matches the color of the screen. If it is too big to repair, you can replace the entire screen. Thriftyfun.com also has a newsletter. Behind him are two women. The usher comes along and says that he has two seats together. Seeing the problem, the usher says to the man, "Let them go first. You wouldn't want to separate a woman from her mother, would you?" The man says, "No, sir. I did that once, and I've been sorry ever since." ___________________________________________________ At the local gas utility written orders are issued to change meters when they are old or malfunctioning. On the order sheet is a "remarks" section, where the service representative notes any problems that prevented the job from being completed. The most succinct explanation to ever come back was this: "Dog does not want meter to be changed." ___________________________________________________ A lawyer was on vacation in a small farming town. While walking through the streets, a car was involved in an accident. As expected a large crowd gathered. Going by instinct, the lawyer was eager to get to the injured, but he couldn't get near the car. Being a clever sort, he started shouting loudly, "Let me through! Let me through! I am the son of the victim." The crowd made way for him. Lying in front of the car was a donkey. __________________________________________________ Ophelia Dingbatter's NewsNo sermon and not suitable for church, just jokes and fun for grownups.
