I went to the bank and picked up a hundred, serially numbered and still in their original band. On my next trip to my parents' house, I gave the $200 to my mother and said, "Take good care of these. They might be worth something someday." Just recently, I asked Mom if she was keeping the two-dollar bills safe. "Oh, yes!" she replied. "I deposited them in the bank the day after you gave them to me." _____________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ Lunching with a friend in a fast-food restaurant, I was telling her about a teenager who had rear-ended my car. The teen blamed me for the accident. "She even called me every dirty name in the book!" I said. Just then I looked over to the next table where two nine-year-old boys had apparently been paying close attention to my story. One said to the other, "There's a book?" ___________________________________________________ An INTERNATIONAL BONEHEAD AWARD has been earned by Jonathan Rockwood, 62, Marlaina Rockwood, 48, Elko, Nevada, USA Children forced to drink from toilet while abusive parents withheld food and water An abusive couple withheld food and water from their children, who became so thirsty that they were forced to drink from a toilet at one point, police said. Jonathan Rockwood, 62, and Marlaina Rockwood, 48, were jailed last week in Elko, Nevada on abuse charges. The couple, who has seven adopted children and ten dogs, allegedly kept their food locked away, their water supply turned off and installed alarms on the doors in their homes to monitor the children. Police were called to their home on july 8 on reports of a runaway child. Officers found the girl, who said her adoptive mother punched her in the face repeatedly. One of her siblings told police that Jonathan Rockwood pinned the girl against the refrigerator while his wife beat her. Marlaina was arrested the following day and an investigators found dog leashes tied to door handles in their home to keep the children in their rooms. The girl told police that she and her siblings were denied food and water, even when they used the restroom. She added that she has personally observed her siblings drink water from the toilet because they are thirsty, according to ElkoDaily. Police reportedly discovered that the bathroom sink cabinet had been locked and the water had been shut off. The children told police they were beaten by Marlaina on numerous occasions and spanked with Jonathans belt, which had a studded buckle. Both Jonathan and Marlaina were booked at the Elko County Jail on $100,000 bond. DearWebby's Tech Support Pits From: Ross RE: Machine locked out Dear Webby, For a few months, my Windows 7 PC has been booting up into a DOS screen sometimes. Not know the reason. Must read the manual or do a Lycos search online. It shows several lines about the system and gives options to go to BIOS SETUP via the DEL Key, or CONTINUE ON with normal boot via the F1 Key. The F1 does go to normal Windows Startup. And the goof boot screen goes away for days. Else everything has been normal. But after being in Virus Isolation for 10 days i just returned home and tried to boot up the PC. No goofy DOS Screen with F1 as a solution. But now all i get is an ACER Logo Screen and at the bottom a DOS line telling me to Use DEL to go to BIOS Setup or F12 to Continue. But nothing happens with either key. And no combination of keys has worked so far. I tried to hit 5 at a time. Or 10. So i tried to power Off the PC and then On again and repeated the same failure. I did this several times without any change. May be the PC is too cold from being shut down for so many days? Or maybe the room is too hot since outside temperature has been over a 100 degrees most of the 10 days. The AC only comes on at 90 degrees. And it gets down to 50 at night. Maybe the range is just too much? Then i tried to boot using a Rescue Disk a few times. Even that not do anything different. The hard drive use light on the cabinet blinks a few times, then that stops and only the power light stays on. Is it the hard drive or memory or the old processor board from before Windows Vista? Do i need to take the PC into Home Depot or Staples or a local repair shop? Or should i get a new Windows X computer? Thanks for the answer in advance, Do i need to take the PC into Home Depot or Staples or a local repair shop? Or should i get a new Windows X computer? Thanks for the answer in advance, Ross Dear Ross Try to avoid Staples. They send the machine to Turkmenistan and somebody there steals your old Windows and puts W10 onto the machine. I am guessing that you did a system backup to an external hard disk near your PC about 10 days ago. And I bet you left the disk drive cable plugged into the bus port on your PC. Remove it and your PC should boot up in the normal manner. With modern machines, where you just plug an external drive into a USB port, you would not have that problem. You CAN set the boot drive to the external USB drive, or a USB memory stick with Linux on it. With modern USB that works well. Have FUN! Most of his friends had already gotten married, and Manny just bounced from one relationship to the next. Finally a friend asked him, "What's the matter, are you looking for the perfect woman? Are you THAT particular? Can't you find anyone who suits you?" "No," Manny replied. "I meet a lot of nice girls, but as soon as I bring them home to meet my parents, my mother doesn't like them. So I keep on looking!" "Listen," his friend suggested, "Why don't you find a girl who's just like your dear ole Mother?" Many weeks past before Manny and his friend got together again. "So Manny. Did you find the perfect girl yet. One that's just like your Mother?" Manny shrugged his shoulders, "Yes I found one just like Mom. My mother loved her, they became great friends." "Excellent!!! So,.... Are you and this girl engaged, yet?" "I'm afraid not. My Father can't stand her!" ----------- That is why I emigrated from Austria to Canada and homesteaded in the Yukon.
