Credit: Reuters | Cyclone Chido is the worst to hit the Indian Ocean island of Mayotte in 90 years, with waves up to eight metres high and winds of 140mph (225kmh). The French island's prefect has warned the number killed will reach "close to a thousand or even several thousand". At least a third of the island’s 320,000 residents live in shanty towns, and there has been significant damage to its central hospital.
