Dear fellow South Carolinians, Hurricane Florence Although Hurricane Florence hit South Carolina last week, bringing destruction and heavy rain to much of the state, the danger from the storm is not over. Officials are expecting historic flooding due to rivers and dams that are continuing to rise into next week. Over 1,000 South Carolinians are without power, and over 200 roads are still closed or damaged. Just today, mandatory evacuations in Florence County were announced. Make no mistake: the flooding we are expecting to experience this weekend and next week has the potential to be one of the greatest disasters in our state’s modern history. My prayers go out to all of my fellow South Carolinians who have felt and continue to feel Florence’s effects. I was in Conway, SC on Wednesday, observing some of the flooding myself, and was shocked by some of the damage I saw. The effects from this storm are far from over, and I urge all residents to stay informed, stay alert & stay safe this weekend and next week.
