Indie Tactics by Emily Thompson Indie Tactics by Emily Thompson

A little over seven years ago I graduated with a degree in Geography. Within weeks of receiving my diploma, I launched my career as a web designer. I never used my Geography education to make money.

In all honesty, I was pretty bitter about the breakup for a while, mostly because I continued to pay for that relationship via a monthly student loan bill. But, I've solidly come to terms with that education because I've recognized the profound impact it's had on my life, even if it hasn't impacted my work all that much.

But, I have a secret: Geography and I are entertaining the idea of getting back together.

As I've dove into the creativity that is the Being Boss book, all kinds of creative endeavors are bubbling up for me. But the one that is grabbing me by the collar and demanding my attention is a marriage of the work I did for my degree, and the work I've been doing for the past 7 years with myself and with my creative clients and peers.

I don't have much more to share at the moment, so I'm just going to leave this here as the ideas continue to become more real, but I want to leave you with this insight:

Become a student of life and your well of creativity will never run dry.

And, second to that:

Trust the process.

You never know what's waiting for you out there, further down your path. All you can do is learn, and grow, and put in the work. If you do all that and leave yourself open to magic, then - well - you never know what might come up for you. And that, guys, is a life that I find fun to live, and a kind of work I don't mind handing myself over to.

Do what you find interesting. And see where it leads you.

TO-DO FOR YOU:
Take a deep breath. Make space for the unexpected. Then go do something you find interested, and follow it as long as you desire.
