I used to listen to Dress Me Slowly every day. 

Truthfully, I have been through phases of listening to a You Am I record every day for a large part of my life. But Dress Me Slowly always struck me as one of the band's most underrated records.

I was bound to tire of it. And I did. It got relegated to the CD rack years ago and hasn't had much action for about a decade.

But after seeing Tim Rogers play 'Weeds' on a live stream the other night, I had to hear it again.

I still knew every nook and cranny of its 13 songs. I knew exactly which song was coming next. And I loved it in a way that I didn't think I could love it again.

It made me consider whether the glee of rediscovering a record you used to love is any more profound than the feelings you developed for it the first time around. 

Is the added pang of nostalgia you get when unearthing an old treasure enough to make it stand even taller? Does distance really make the heart grow fonder?

It can't be confected. You can't bury a record like a time capsule and come back to it expecting revelations. 

But geez it's a good feeling to be surprised by something so familiar. Dig through your shelves this weekend and see if something grabs you for the first time in a long time.
