The canning process is a lot of fun, but sometimes it begins before you enter your kitchen...

Several years ago, we visited friends in the Mt. Hood, Washington area. I had the opportunity to glean from some pear orchards right after the harvest. I'm such a food geek, so I thought it was fun! Mt. Hood Orchards' fruit right in my kitchen, ripening and smelling heavenly. Yum.

Maybe you'll have a chance to glean pears from a local orchard or neighbor's tree this year? Just in case, I've included the recipe below. :)
