 | | Dear OZY Tribe — I know India quite well. Or so I thought, as I made my sixth visit there last week. Some things have not changed since my first on-a-shoestring backpacking trip in 2007 — I still love the crackling sense of energy in the air. I still love mango lassi. I still love auto rickshaws. (I’m in one, above, with my terrific colleagues Maroosha Muzaffar and Charu Kasturi.) But the world's largest democracy, currently in the middle of the biggest elections in the history of the world, always surprises. On Thursday, May 23, we will know the results of the mammoth seven-phase election that has gripped India for the past three months: with more than 8,000 candidates, 12 million polling officials, 900 million voters — and endless twists and turns. | | | | Ahead of that, here’s a chance to get smarter about this extraordinary country: OZY’s States of the Nation: India.
