I’m a lawyer not a salesperson...that's wrong Dear John, One of the phrases I constantly hear is: “I’m a lawyer, not a salesperson.” This is an excuse the attorney in front of me will share to try and convince me that he is not able to grow his practice in a proactive way. Here is the reality: If you don’t offer people your services, nobody will know who you are and what you do. During the past 12 years, hundreds of attorneys who have amazing jury verdicts, million-dollar transactions, and years and years of listings in Super Lawyers, have come to me for help in developing a book of business. Being a great lawyer is not enough to help you survive. You must develop relationships in order to make it in the legal profession. That’s a fact. If your desire is to keep your head down and work on files or work up cases, you may be able to fit in as a production lawyer at a big law firm or in a government position. If you can find one of those jobs, your income will be capped, and you’ll be at the mercy of someone else – the person who brings in the work or the person who assigns the projects. There is another way - a better way… You could discover easy and effective ways to develop and deepen relationship. You could develop an approach that fits in with your personality and allows you to showcase your talent in a way that attracts people to you and your law firm. It is not difficult. It doesn’t look like selling cars or vacuums. It looks like offering assistance to people who need it. Here are my questions to you: Do you want to help people? Do you want to help people and make money? Do you want to help people, make money, and have fun doing it? If you answered “YES” to any of those questions, we should talk. I help lawyers attract clients in a way that is natural and effective for them and in alignment with their personality.
