I'm quitting blogging (and almost everything else)

Hi, friend.

I hope your holiday season is going well. It's always a bit of a scramble around here leading up to Christmas, but I'm grateful to have a week of slowing down ahead of me.

This time of year gets me thinking about new beginnings. And as we all know by now, the start of something new is often preceded by the end of something old. For me, this act of letting go is not only necessary to the creative process but to life itself.

As I mentioned last week, I am shifting email platforms by the end of the year, but this is more than a tweak in technology. I'm changing how I do everything.

Earlier this week, I quit all social media, telling folks the only way they'll be able to connect with me is through my newsletter on Substack, which you can preview here. There are a couple posts there already, but I'll be sharing more soon enough.

Last night, I wrote my last blog post on goinswriter.com and published it today. You can read it here: The End of Blogging (for Me).

Does this mean that I'm done writing? Not at all. It just means I'm shifting focus on what's most important. I'm tired of the frenetic context switching from one social platform to the next. I'm tired of having a piece of tech break on my website and spend a few hours trouble shooting it just so that I can say something to you.

What I want to do, what I've always wanted to do, is just write. And I've found a simple, easy way to do that through Substack. Honestly, I think it's the future of online writing, what blogging used to be, and I couldn't be more excited about it. If you're a writer looking to hone your craft and find some new readers in the process, I highly recommend it.

For now, though, just consider this a heads-up that the next email you get from me should come from via that platform. I'm still getting set up there, but my goal is to send you a new email after Christmas with a sense of what's next.

Thanks for your readership and attention over the years. It means the world to me. This is not the end, not at all. I am just getting started. But now, I'm more focused on the writing than ever. I hope you'll join me in another season of words, revelations, and big moves in the New Year.
