It’s the end of the world as we know it! And Siri feels fine. Want to see something scary? Just ask Siri, “How long until 2020 ends?” If your Siri is working like everyone else’s, she’ll tell you that 2020 is ending in just a matter of hours! How can this be? Does Siri have classified information about the COVID-19 pandemic, government plots or a full-scale nuclear war? Well, believe it or not, this isn’t a glitch, but it’s not the end of the world either. Most of the world runs on what we call “military time,” which includes a 24-hour day. If you ask Siri when “2020 is ending,” what she thinks you’re saying is “When is 8:20 p.m. ending?” The exact amount of hours will depend on your local time, but the end of 20:20 can’t be more than a day away from anyone in the world. Oh Siri, thanks for giving anyone who fell for this trick a heart attack. That wasn’t very smart of you. Computers are getting better at understanding us, but there are some sentences they just can’t manage. Tap or click to see the sentences computers can’t understand but humans can. → |
