IAG reports 1H profits up 24% on strong revenue, traffic

International Airline Group—parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling and Level—reported strong half-year profits Aug. 3, despite the dual headwinds of rising fuel prices and continuing strikes by French air traffic controllers.


Ryanair’s Spanish pilot union files lawsuit over contracts

Spanish pilots’ union SEPLA has filed a lawsuit against Ryanair in a bid to get the airline to apply Spanish labor law to its members’ contracts.

Brazil’s GOL posts 2Q net loss on currency depreciation

São Paulo-based LCC GOL reported a BRL1.3 billion ($329.1 million) second-quarter 2018 net loss, deepened from a BRL409.5 million net loss a year ago, largely attributable to a steep 16% drop in the monetary exchange rate between the Brazilian real and the US dollar during the three-month period ended June 30.


Atlas boosts 2Q net income on strong demand; raises full-year guidance

Cargo operator Atlas Air Worldwide (AAW), continuing to reap benefits from strong demand across its businesses, increased adjusted net income 71% year-over-year (YOY) in the second quarter and has raised its full-year revenue and profit forecasts.

Embraer posts $125 million 2Q loss on 19% jet deliveries decline

Brazilian manufacturer Embraer posted a second-quarter 2018 consolidated net loss of $124.7 million, a reversal from the company’s $72.1 million net profit showing for 2Q 2017.

Canadian ULCC Swoop to launch services to five US cities

Swoop, WestJet’s new ULCC, has unveiled its first five US destinations and will launch transborder services Oct. 11, connecting Edmonton and Abbotsford with Las Vegas. Edmonton-Las Vegas will be daily, while the Abbotsford flights will be 3X-weekly.
